Hardware hacking for movies and TV shows: tech insights into how special effects are made. 🤖🎬🎥🛠️✨

Expert in movie effects and hardware hacker Davis DeWitt shares in his presentation rare and unique insights about how the tech in movies is made, like the shark in Jaws, the T-Rex in Jurassic Park, and the droids in Star Wars.

The author also tells the story of building a robot character for a kids movie. Unlike industrial robots designed for efficiency, this robot’s main purpose was to make audiences connect with it emotionally.

The most touching part was learning that Drew Barrymore was so young she believed E.T. was real. The special effects team kept the prop “alive” between takes so she wouldn’t find out. What incredible people!

Try to make things that don’t make sense, don’t be afraid of mistakes, and let this talk be your inspiration for the week!
