Hack 3D printers into robots: cheap, easy-to-manage & modify lab automation. 📇🛠️🤖🦾🌟

Today’s research is unusual, but very useful and interesting: academic researchers Sander Baas, Nessa Carson, and Vittorio Saggiomo presented a practical approach last week to create cheap, easy-to-manage laboratory robots from… 3D printers!

Because 3D printers are cheap, widely available, and programmable (using G-code), they provide a super-flexible platform for building low-cost lab automation systems. A modified 3D printer can be so precise that it can dispense a single cell suspended in just one nanoliter of liquid.

Actually, researchers already use them to automate tasks in fields like chemistry, biology, and materials science. I wonder if we can use them in security research as well... What do you think?
